St Andrew’s School was established by St Andrew’s Church, Walkerville in 1850. The aim of the School was to provide an education for the children of Walkerville, teaching the principles of the Anglican Church. The original School building, built of sandstone on a very small block of land, is still used as the Music Centre and stands as a reminder of where our community began. Today the School has an enrolment drawn from across Adelaide, Australia and internationally.
The School crest was first adopted in the early 1900s with the motto “Nisi dominus Frustra” (Psalm 127 v.1, “Except the Lord build the house, their labour is lost that build it”) being added at a later date. The crest is proudly worn on our current uniforms and displayed throughout the School.
In 1978, the School was gifted by St Andrew’s Church to the body known as St Andrew’s School Incorporated. Ties of tradition and affection have been maintained over the years and both the School and Church continue to work in close harmony.
Throughout its history, St Andrew’s has been uncompromisingly committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning, and the creation of a safe, caring and nurturing family environment. Consequently, in response to community demand for places at the School, additional land has been acquired and a major building programme has been undertaken. This has included the construction of classrooms, specialist facilities, tuition rooms, an Information Services Centre and an Early Learning Centre which has enabled a continuity of learning from the early years to Year 7. An overpass ensures the safety of students and the integration of the Junior Primary and Upper Primary campuses. The development of these facilities has been made possible by the combined efforts of the St Andrew’s School Council, Foundation, Parents’ Association and the many voluntary hours and financial generosity of members of the St Andrew’s community.

Our School will
continue to be proactive and innovative both in its educational
offering and in the environment it provides for its students,
staff and families.
