Studies are enhanced by structured transdisciplinary inquiry which explores
the following themes:
Who are we?
Where are we in place and time?
How we express ourselves
How the world works
How we organise ourselves
Sharing the planet.
Subsequent classroom activities are a direct response to the questions generated by this exploration. In this way students acquire and practise skills and build new knowledge. They do so in a climate that fosters positive attitudes and offers opportunities for constructive action. Assessment of student learning focuses on the quality of the students’ research and the breadth and depth of their responses to the ‘big ideas’ at the heart of the inquiry process.
The latest technologies and resources are made available to our students throughout their time at school. All students are involved in regular small group work to complement the work of the class teachers. Resource teachers work with each year level group, providing personalised learning for students with extra needs.
Interaction with the broader community provides significant learning opportunities for our students. Throughout the year guest speakers are invited to share and discuss their experiences with students. Places of educational and historical significance are included in the School’s day and half day excursion programme. In addition, our students visit art exhibitions and experience performances of music, dance and drama. International cultural exchanges enrich the curriculum. |
