Early Learning Centre

As with all aspects of St Andrew’s School, this Centre has been built in response to the needs of our learning community, our children, parents and staff.  This world class facility is conceptually connected to a respect for children and provides spaces that inform, educate and nurture those who share them.

Our Programme

We welcome children from the age of three and a half years old.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our programme of learning and discovery relates specifically to how children grow and develop.  It is fresh and innovative.  Each child has the freedom to learn and develop socially in a safe place.  We aim to excite children’s interest and imagination, supporting and guiding them as they discover the joy of learning.

Our children are cared for in small groups. Diverse talents and abilities are valued and we actively seek the ‘extraordinary’ in each child. Our detailed documentation captures the moment and ensures that parents can share their children’s journey. We are committed to listening with eyes, ears, hearts and minds. We learn all we can about the children in our care. We offer regular, open and responsive communication.

Hours
We offer full day sessions from 8.45 - 3.15pm. Children may arrive from 8.15am. Parents are able to choose between three, four and five day sessions each week.

Play Wear
Our children wear specifically designed play wear which is attractive and practical.  This may be purchased from the School Shop on the Upper School (western) campus.

Meals
Healthy snacks and midday meals are provided for our ELC children.  Our menus are nutritious and well balanced and can be tailored to accommodate any special dietary requirements.

Fees
Our schedule of fees is available from the Registrar and is usually made available when you meet with the Principal.  All fees are payable in advance each term.  An annual fixed charge is also payable.  Family rebates apply.

Our Centre
Nestled within its own botanic setting, our Early Learning Centre offers seven different learning environments.  Our Piazza is a welcoming space, full of light, with an expanse of windows to connect those inside with the sky and trees outside.  Innovative displays of children’s artwork, construction and other languages of expression create a vibrancy and sense of adventure.  Each of the three home rooms, named Lavender, Rosemary and Tarragon, offer child-size furniture and educational equipment to encourage discovery and learning in a safe, nurturing environment.  The Atelier (art room) is a treasure chest of colours, textures and shapes designed to stimulate learning and encourage a growing sense of self-awareness.  At meal times, the children gather in the dining area adjacent to the kitchen.  Sharing a meal provides a wealth of social interaction and includes preparation of simple foods and setting the tables.  A verandah links all the home room garden entrances and it is here that children greet their parents at the end of each day.  In the garden, stepping stones, a sandpit, grasses, a mini-stage and a stream provide a fascinating range of opportunities for play and learning.

If you would like to visit our Centre, please contact our Registrar, Mrs Jill Annese, on 8168 5511 to arrange a mutually convenient time.
