Alumni 2021, Year 6 and 7 First Year Reunions

On Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June, we welcomed back the Year 6 and 7 students from the Alumni of 2021. Old Scholars reconnected with friends and shared their experiences from their new schools.

The President of the Old Scholars' Association, Michael Herbert, presented the group with their Old Scholars' pack. The pack included a photo booklet, membership certificate, and a badge which is a replica of the original worn in 1913.

They enjoyed delicious pizza and doughnuts, whilst they reminisced about their school days.

The next Old Scholars reunion will be when they reach Year 12. We look forward to hearing about all their accomplishments in the many bright years ahead.

St Andrew’s teachers congratulate their past students upon their excellent Year 12 results and offers of University courses.

Congratulations to the St Andrew’s students who completed Year 12 last year and will be starting University and other education or working spaces in the next few weeks. The results reflect the hard work and dedication of the students. The quality and professionalism of the teaching staff and educational experience offered at St Andrew’s School is evident, and is where they began their educational journey.

The strong foundation received at St Andrew’s will set our newest Old Scholars up for success. The graphs below indicate the areas of study our students are embarking on after finishing secondary school.

The St Andrew’s Old Scholars’ Association was formed over one hundred years ago when their first meeting was held in the Walkerville Hall on 28 September 1913.

The inaugural Association was extremely active in St Andrew’s school life.

In 1915 they undertook the construction of the Pavilion situated along the cemetery wall. The Pavilion was required as shelter for the students as well as a venue for functions, such as the St Andrew’s Day fetes. Many of the Old Scholars rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into manual labour to build the Pavillion. Just over twenty-two pounds (today, this would amount to $2,320.76) was raised by an Old Scholars’ Festival contributing towards the overall cost.

Special functions were held by the Association to farewell their fellow Old Scholars who enlisted for service in WWI. Each Old Scholar was presented with a wallet to acknowledge their connection to the School. One hundred years later, our First World War veterans are remembered in a Roll of Honour which forms part of the Walkway of Heroes at St Andrew’s. A grant from the ANZAC Day Commemoration Fund contributed towards the memorial, formally opened at an ANZAC Day service in April 2015.

As with many groups of this longevity, the Association has had times of strength and times of lesser support. The present committee has maintained connections between the Old Scholar community and the School by organising an annual program of events.

Each year reunions are held for those who left the School one, five, 10, 20 and 30 years ago. The St Andrew’s Reunions are keenly attended by the Principal, staff and teachers from that time. It’s always a highly anticipated and wonderful get together. All graduating Year 6 students are presented with an St Andrew’s Old Scholars badge, a certificate and a Principal’s Tour of the School.

In 2014 the Association reintroduced the St Andrew’s School Old Scholars’ Badge, incorporating the original 1913 design. The badge is presented to financial members of the Old Scholars’ Association.

The Old Scholars’ Association plays an important part to help St Andrew’s raise funds for equipment needed by the students and by organising functions for past students to help cement strong and loyal ties to their School.

The St Andrew’s School Old Scholars’ Committee

The Association is run by a committee elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. The Committee comprises Old Scholars from different school years and decades, many are also parents at St Andrew’s.

An annual program of events is offered to all Old Scholars and fundraising also contributes towards School projects.

In 2014 the Old Scholars contributed towards the new landscaping of the Walkway of Heroes by donating a custom designed garden bench for St Andrew’s Old Scholars and current students to enjoy when taking a break from play. The Walkway of Heroes fundraising cheque was presented at the 2014 Long Lunch by the President of the Association, George Demourtzidis, to Kristian Downing, St Andrew’s School Foundation Chair at the time.

In 2015, another donation was made to the School Hall Appeal, following the success of the Old Scholars’ Bogan Bingo event. Proceeds from the 2016 Quiz Night were generously donated to Stage 1 of the School’s new Master Plan.
