Where Bright Futures Begin
Tarrkarri Building awarded Commendation at 2023 SA Architecture Awards
Congratulations to architecture firm, Swanbury Penglase, for their recognition at the 2023 Australian Institute of Architects SA Architecture Awards. They were awarded a Commendation in Educational Architecture for the St Andrew’s School Tarrkarri Building.
Tarrkarri was designed to reflect the future of education, and the prominent build reflects our School's high quality education practices. This bold and innovative space is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and features a variety of stimulating learning offerings, catering for a new generation of learners.
The design process involved a Visioning Workshop and subsequent consultation with the School's teaching staff. The goal was to create a space that could be repurposed and reshaped to suit the changing needs of student groups.
The primary focus of the project was to create a large, variegated educational space with multiple affordances to support a wide range of explorations in scientific and engineering areas. The workshop spaces enable students to set up projects and return to them on an ongoing basis over days or weeks.
The Tarrkarri building is a significant achievement for St Andrew's School and SwanburyPenglase. The building is a model for future educational spaces, and it is sure to inspire and engage students for many years to come.
