Early Learning Centre (ELC)

The St Andrew’s School Early Learning Centre is guided by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme.

Underpinning all we do is our image of children being capable, competent, curious, full of wonder with endless potential and possibilities.

Careful choices are made to provide our children with a rich, nurturing and respectful learning environment. Decisions about the physical surrounds, varied sensory resources, routines and timings, and supported playful learning experiences provide a wide range of opportunities for learning and developing strong emotional wellbeing and social relationships.

We believe playful learning is a fundamental right of children and is a the core of our Early Learning Centre and curriculum. Children learn each day through participation in the many intentional and self-chosen play experiences which are available. We aim to challenge our students’ thinking, encourage them to see things from other perspectives, to discover something not known and build on previous understandings.

All meals are provided, replicating traditional family mealtime - gathering around a table to share conversations, enjoy beautifully cooked meals and continue to build relationships with peers and teachers.

Children may begin from 3 years of age and depending on their birth date progress to either January or Mid-Year Reception intakes.
