Where Bright Futures Begin
Reception to Year 5
Children in Reception to Year 5 build on their ELC experience through inquiry-based learning using the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The IB PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer and lifelong learner, both in the classroom and in the wider world. The Programme develops 'internationally minded knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.' (IBO Mission Statement)
The PYP Programme provides a rigorous, challenging and engaging curriculum where students understand the connections between subjects and the real world coming critical, creative and reflective thinkers. The PYP provides a balance between the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, development of conceptual understandings, demonstration of positive attitudes, and taking responsible action.
The IB PYP is continually engaging and reviewing current educational research. This enables St Andrew's students to be exposed to innovative and creative learning for the 21st century.
Through the implementation of the PYP, our goal at St Andrew’s School is to develop:
- Individuals that are confident, resilient, enriched, respectful and responsible
- Learners that are intellectually curious, keen to participate and are skilled collaborators
- Members of the community that are inclusive, committed and globally connected
- Leaders who are creative, enterprising and articulate world citizens
