From the Art Room

In the Upper Primary art room, each term we have a provocation that acts as a prompt to stimulate students' thinking, creativity, and engagement in the arts. Last term, our provocation "Art is..." encouraged students to consider all the different things that art can be or mean to them.

This term, we are exploring arts language and creating our own "A to Z of Art Words" to develop a stronger arts-specific vocabulary. By encouraging our students to discuss, describe, and interpret artworks using specific terms such as "contrast," "symbolism," "perspective," or "balance," we encourage them to think deeply about the artwork's intention, message, and techniques. As students engage in discussions about art, they learn to support their viewpoints, consider alternative perspectives, and develop reasoning skills that extend beyond the classroom.
